- What is DDC?
- DDC is and acronym for Direct Digital Controls. DDC is a generic term for any control system using digital microprocessor based controls.
- Why use DDC building automation systems?
- DDC building automation systems allow you to have a large amount of useful analytical data for troubleshooting, billing, energy consumption, and temperature control for the spaces in your building.
- What is open protocol?
- Open protocol systems use industry standard regulated communication protocols, agreed upon by multiple vendors. BACnet, our preferred protocol, is one example of an open communication protocol and additional information can be found here on the BACnet.org site.
- What is the difference between open and closed protocols?
- Open protocols are maintained by an organization or committee, dedicated to the standardization of communications to allow interoperability of components of a system. This allows different manufacturers to use the same communication wiring and communicate with other devices, without the need of translators or additional devices.
- Closed systems (AKA proprietary) are maintained by the manufacturer of the system. A closed or proprietary system is linked to a single manufacturer. These can be locked down to only work with devices from that manufacturer or would use a translating device from that manufacturer to allow other devices on the system.
